What is Summer Camp USA®
Summer Camp USA® is actually like a leadership training/adventure camp where camp leaders from over 80 countries around the world, i.e. Europe/Asia/US come together to spend a fun-filled summer with each other! You will be expected to lead children of age 6 - 14 years in activities from journalism/ photography to canoeing/archery or even horseriding!
Our Summer Camp USA® Programme 2010 is open to all young adults:-
• of age 18 - 30 years;
• have intermediate level of English;
• have a minimum 9 weeks of school holidays to work and travel in America.
To begin with, applicants must positively like children and enjoy being with children in a leadership role. He/she should also be energetic, tolerant, adaptable, willing to work hard, conscientious, cheerful, physically able to do the job and able to live within camp rules such as curfews, or limitations on alcohol consumption and smoking.
There are generally 2 types of counselors – General Camp Counsellor and Specialist Counsellor. A General Camp Counsellor will not be the one teaching children, instead he/she will be the one facilitating and assisting the Specialist Counsellors in these activities. General Camp Counsellors will also get to participate in all these fun games with the children!
On the other hand, a Specialist Counsellor is one with a special skill or qualifications he/she would be able to pass on to the children and his fellow counsellors. It could be anything from music/ origami to hiking/ rock-climbing and even riflery! Nearly all Summer Camp USA® participants are general counsellors, even those who also have specialist duties.
The Summer Camp USA®, as suggested by its name, will take place every summer for any 10 - 12 weeks between May and September. Let's say if you start in May, you will probably end in early August; and if you start in June, you will end sometime in late August, so on and so forth.
The Summer Camp USA® offers eligible applicants a chance for a fun and worthwhile summer living alongside and working with children aged 6 to 16 on a summer camp in the USA or Canada.
Participants get to spend up to 4 months living in America. Not only can you expect to make friends with youths from all around the world, you will also get to experience the unique aspect of the American culture and lifestyle, as well as get a feel of their distinctive American identity.
