What is Work America®?
Work America® Program 2010 is a cultural exchange programme where students enjoy a short work stint in various positions in America to experience the working environment there.
The original Work America® programme is ideal for university students who want to get more out of their summer holiday, spending up to 4 months working and another 30 days travelling in America. Not only do you make friends with young adults from all around the world, you will also have the chance to learn of one another’s cultures. Participants get to experience the unique aspect of the American culture and lifestyle and get a feel of their distinctive American identity as well.
Who? All full-time degree students with intermediate level of English proficiency
When? Summer every year, any 12-16 weeks from May to September period
What? After their work stint, students can choose to stay on for up to another 30 days to do free and easy travels and explore the US on their own.
Dorgan administers Work America® in conjunction with our US programme sponsor, International Exchange of North America (IENA).
With Dorgan help, you could spend the summer as a theme park ride-operator at east coast amusement park, wait on tables at a Cape Cod restaurant or even having a serious conversation with members of a private New York country club you are working in! The J-1 visa allows you to do almost any job, anywhere in the US!
Job opportunities/positions are generally service-oriented, and aplenty in various states, not only restricted to a few states. Do feel free to contact us and our staff will be more than happy to discuss you employment opportunities with you!
Work America® offers:
• Pre-arranged Jobs – Gives you a peace of mind knowing you have work lined up and in which part of America
• DS-2019 – The official document which enables you to apply for the J-1 visa
• Flexible Flight Options – Travel with other participants or make your own plans
• Expert Advice, Help and Support – In Singapore and US from our staff to help you prepare for your trip
• Pre-departure Orientation – To get you ready for the trip
• Comprehensive Insurance with no excess
• The opportunity to spend four months having the summer of a lifetime in America!

Eligibility
You can apply if you are:
• 18 years old by 1st June 2010; and
• A current full-time student at a Singapore university on a degree level. The course must run for the complete 2009-2010 academic year. Final year students are eligible to apply.
Students of any nationality can apply providing they meet the above download requirements.

When the America embassy receives your application, they will take in a number of factors when considering whether to grant your visa. Dorgan’s information sheet provides useful information with regard to the process.
Have you already taken part on Work America®?
If you have had a J-1 visa before, either through Dorgan or another organisation, you can apply for Work America® 2010 as a returner provided you have met the abovementioned requirements and that places are still available. You will stand an equal chance as your fellow first-time applicants.
